One of the areas in which the team have the most experience is in gating surveys
for rail operating companies. Footmark Surveys was commissioned to conduct such a
survey at Victoria Station in December of 2012 on behalf of Southern Railways.
Having acquired Gatwick Express, Southern Railways were keen to gather data on passenger
numbers and behaviour passing through Victoria Station on a typical Thursday, Friday
and a Sunday. Footmark Surveys was happy to help and provided enumerators on site
to manually count passenger numbers using the various gate sections. Passengers were
classified according to Southern Railway’s wishes and the data was presented in an
Excel spreadsheet to the requested format.
This was an enjoyable survey that allowed us to work alongside the friendly and helpful
Gatwick Express staff, and to witness some of the colourful goings-on they experience
in their daily working lives.
